Front cover analysis

The Killers who are a universal group known for their musical influences from the 1980's, which is conveyed through the artist Brandon Flowers. He represents an eighties period by his clothing, facial expression and pose. He's chosen to symbolize this period with the connatations being defiant, edgy and rebellious. His hair and blazer jacket are both square and angular, showing a masculine, dominant feel to his image and music, which also reflects the name of the artist " The Killers" which is also in a sharp blod font. The dark colours of grey, blue, and white create a mysterious edgey feel towards the magazine which relect the genre of the magazine.

His pose is also angular and defiant like a freeze frame of motion. His hair and costume is reminiscent of Grace Jones, an iconic nineteen eighties singer projecting an image of defiance, masculinity and dominance with her angular suit and haircut.
On the cover of Q the main focus of the image is Brandon Flowers which is overlapping the masthead. This illustrates to the audience how popular and well known the magazine is as its still recogniseable even though its slightly covered which illustrates Q magazines confidence in the magazine. The image 'bleeds' to the edge of the page as there is no background just the text played over the top of the picutre. This is to insure all focus is on the image as this is the most predominant feature.
Along side the image Q are trying to attract and pursaude the audience to read the magazine as "Plus 171 more reviews" which makes the audience want to find out what other reviews are included. Also by the list of Artist names along the left hand side are also intriguing the potential buyer to purchase the magazine. On the right hand sign is a cross which is in black which draws the attention of the potential buyer and to attract the readers attention to the list of names. A cross sigh may have been used as its symbolic for an addition sign of what else is included in the magazine. These names of artists all share the same genre of the magazine so this reinforces the type of artists to be expected to be in the magazine.

The colour scheme used for this cover is white, pink and black. 'Brandon Flowers Starman' is in a light pink font and Brandon is also wearing a pink shirt which can portray he's femine personality and also illustrate he's personal sensitive subjects conveyed through hes music.
Brandon is wearing a dark metalic suit which represents a harsh exterior whilst wearing pink shirt underneath shows a sensitive interoir. This echos the style of music where its edgey, hard on the outside but the lyrics may illustrate Brandon Flowers lifestyle and personality.
Q magazine have still targeted their general audience of teenagers/yuong adults from 17-25 who are more focused on targetting males due to the genre being indie/rock and alot of male artists and bands fall into this genre. Q have also reflected this genre of indie, rock in their magazine as along the right hand side are artists names who also follow this genre such as Bruce Springstein and the fall of top of the pop. The colours on the front cover are black, white, grey and pink which are all associated with indie, rock. From this cover Q are also trying to appeal to a wider audience as they are not focusing on one particular genre and along the left side are artists names of a different genres such as Amy Winehouse who is an RnB/jazz artist and Take That being a pop artist. These artist names are written in a bold black font with either a white, grey, or pink border to highlight the difference in genre.

Q magazine have chosen to use this image of Brandon Flowers instead of using a picture of all members of The Killers due to Brandon Flowers being the vocalist of the group and being the most well known. This may also suggest Brandon wanted to be known as more of an individual and not just part of a group.Brandon Flowers is targetting both an upperclass and working class society as of Brandon Flowers representing wealth as of he's suit and well grommed hair and face which people of the upperclass society will relate to e.g. business men who wear suits on a daily basis. Also the working class genre as of this society aspiring for this wealth and glamourous ideology. He appears to be wearing hand gloves over the palms of hes hands and appears to be balancing on some sort of bridge with a cloudy sky which reflects a more casual rebellious atmophere. He's pose seems to be balancing in a star shape which reflects the headline "Brandon Flowers Starman' which suggests he's life style of living on the edge.
